OBD2 only uses a small part of the KWP2000 protocol, the ELM tool is not compatible with modes that aren't used by OBD2, including those used by Suzuki/Maruti and many other manufacturers for their primary diagnostic interface.

I have a Maruti Suzuki Estilo 1.1 and a Maruti Suzuki Gypsy King 1.3 (Long wheelbase Indian version of the Suzuki Samurai) which uses the older version engine (Non- K Series). These cars have a 16 pin OBD connector but don't work on the ELM 327 OBD2 Protocol (i've tried). Since there are so many OBD protocols, i'm wondering which one would work. by the way, the pins (populated) in the Estilo is 4,5,7,9 & 16 whereas the pins in the Gypsy King are 4,5,7 & 16. You mentioned that If pin 7 is also populated then the main engine ECU will use the KWP2000 protocol rather than the SDL protocol, then i wonder why the ELM 327 protocol doesn't communicate with the ECU when it is supposed to be compatible with ISO 14230 (aka. KWP200). can anyone help me on this? Cheers & thanks in advance!
