No, it's a wagon. They are, or were, quite common here in Sweden. Perhaps our long winters made them popular.

I don't think I've seen a 4WD Baleno before, is it a saloon?

I'm back to my problems after the new year holiday. I tried and tested all that you suggested and it still didn't start. Yesterday I disconnected the fuel pump control for the extra fuel pump (it's a 4wd), and tried and it surprisingly started. I drove it a while and I've been driving a lot today and not a single misfire .... I reconnected the fuel pump control and no difference, running as good as ever. My big problem now is if I can trust my car or if it will suddenly stop again.

Nevertheless, many thanks for your help and support.

Check the wiring around the noise suppressor, if the ECU doesn't see a feedback signal from the ignition then it will cut the fuelling.

As far as I can see, that is the problem. As I understand one side of the coil gets 12V from the key switch (ignition switch? English is not my native language) and the other side is grounded by the ECU. The 12V side is OK, but I doubt that the other side is grounded by the ECU, checking that tomorrow.

The thing that it doesn't start when I bypass the relay makes me think that it is something else that is the main problem, and it seems to be very hard to find out what it is.

Very thankful for your help.

Is the relay getting a signal to the coil - if it doesn't it won't close and there will be no power to the pump.

Thanks for the answers, here is a little more info.

Yes, I get fuel to the engine when the pump runs. It only runs when I bypass the relay, it doesn't run at all when I try to start the engine, not even the first three seconds.

I have not actually checked the sparks, but I think the spark is OK. I have tried to start the engine with the fuel pump constantly working (relay bypassed), and it tries to start while cranking but it will not start. I'll check the spark tomorrow.

Do you know what errors can disable the fuel pump?

My ECU is 33920-65G60,  is it common with ECU failure?

To replace the ECU you need to open the ECU and swap over the memory chip. The CEL will remain on until the engine starts.

The check engine light should come on when the ignition is switched and stay on until the engine is started - if there is a fault code, it will stay on as long as the ignition is on - the fuel pump should run for three seconds when the ignition is switched on, and then go off until the engine is started.

You need to troubleshoot this as a "non start" problem and only focus on the ECU if the troubleshooting points in that direction - are you getting fuel to the engine (I know you said the pump worked, but that is not the question I'm asking), are you getting a spark at the plugs?

Hi!

I have a 1999 Baleno that one day just didn't start. I have read the forum but I can't find any answer, so I try to get some help.

One morning when I started up it ran about tvo seconds and that was it, then it refuses to start. First I thought it was the fuel pump as it didn't work, but as I checked the relay and bypassed it the pump worked. I have tried to start the engine with the fuel pump relay bypassed but no result.

I then checked fault codes (engine check lamp) but the only thing I get is code 12, normal. An other thing is that the Check Engine lamp lites constantly with ignition ON (I don't know how it is supposed to do).

I have checked all ECU connections according to Suzukis service manual, and nearly all of it is accordingly to specs. The manual covers a few different ECU's and a few different engines so I have used the one that is the right ECU.

I tried with an other ECU but discovered that my car is equiooed with an immobilizer, so that didn't work.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I order a Diagnostic Tool so I can replace the ECU?

Best regards
