Only the OBD1 Jimnys have the monitor coupler that allows the faults to be read using the Check Engine Light, that feature is not present on OBD2 models and may not be present on vehicles with the Suzuki KWP protocol.

Thanks Rhinoman for your answer. So there would be some chance I can read my ECU with an OBD2 scanner. If quite similar to Jimny, no way to make the check engine light flashing for reading ??
The ECU is almost identical to a Jimny ECU, unfortunately it is very difficult to determine if it is OBD2 or OBD1 from the circuit board. If it is a model intended for the French market then it will be OBD2. Versions sold for countries without some form of OBD2 legislation often use a Suzuki specific protocol that is very similar to KWP2000 - I'm currently trying to get hold of one of these ECUs to develop a scan tool.
The only known way to test the interface is to use an ELMScan tool with a terminal programme such as Hyperterminal; you have to use the standard KWP messages to determine what protocols are supported.

First a quick introduction of myself, I am a french frog exiled to Reunion island in Indian Ocean, closed to Madagascar. I lived for a year in Leeds and love your country guys. I guess that it is now, like France, too cold for me, love so much driving my Samurai only with its bikini
So I own a 2003 Soft Top Samurai, it is a Spanish model from Santana factory, engined with what seems to be a G13BB (multipoints fuel injection). This engine seems to look like what you can find in first Jimnies. I did not find any documentation about that specific engine for Samurai which would obviously really help ...
As many I have a fixed engine check light and would like to check where the problem comes from without paying around £100 at local dealer.
My ECU is unknow on the forum, it is a 33920-80CQ with a OBD2 diagnostic connector with pins 4, 5, 7, 9 & 16 used
Hereafter some pictures of the whole thing. I would really appreciate if you could help finding a way to read my fault codes. I have seen a lot of cheap OBD2 scanners on ebay but I also read many posts saying that it does not work with Suzuki ECUs.
Thanks
