I have put together a prototype but it is not ready to be sent out, I need to add some protection to the input. My test ECU is also not communicating so I need to resolve that to do a full test. I am out of the office next week testing a new OEM ECU so nothing will be ready until at least the week after next.

Hi Rhinoman is your cable ready to read the data from pin 7 ? If yes can you send me the cable, rest I will try to use it with my car & send you the data or details if any
if you want I can extract data or details (if possible) with your help & send you the details.
I'm testing a new version of the SDL interface that will be compatible with the interface on pin 7, my Rhinoview software is being modified to be be compatible. This will be available in approx. four weeks.

is it necessary to send ecu can't we do it in India if you can provide us some help or details
I don't need the ECU but I do need to know which pins are populated in the connector, ECUs that use pin 7 require different software to those that use pin 9.

Its usually located under the dashboard, below the steering wheel, it can be tricky to see sometimes. We are still trying to determine which protocols are used on these cars biut usually if pin 7 is populated then its OBD2 and if pin 7 is not populates and pin 9 is populated then its OBD1/SDL.

Newbie to all this but electronics engineer a long time ago. Have 2001 Alto. Where is the socket located please and how do I tell if it is ODBII or not?
You need to locate the diagnostic connector and determine which pins are populated, from that you can determine if you have an OBD1 or OBD2 ECU. Do you have the 4-cylinder G10B engine? we had those in 2001 in our Maruti built Altos and those were OBD2.
