The ELM tool isn't compatible with any of the SDL protocols, its OBD2 only which means limited data, no controls and very slow data rates. I have a couple but use Torque Pro on an Android device.

Hi James and all interested,

I thought on the subject of Raspberry pi it might be useful to share (please excuse this if it is not posted on the right page or breaking forum rules)

On the subject of OBDII interface using a raspberry pi there is some helpful links regarding using the bluetooth connectivity of the latest raspberry pi I had started to look at what was out there since I brought one for my son and got to play with it ..then I brought the touch screen interface ...(Fun being a Dad).. here are some things I looked at see links below in the interest of saving other people trolling internet for hours like I did:

http://www.stuffaboutcode.com/2013/07/raspberry-pi-reading-car-obd-ii-data.html

http://gersic.com/connecting-your-raspberry-pi-to-a-bluetooth-obd-ii-adapter/

http://fabcirablog.weebly.com/blog/reading-a-cars-obdii-port-with-a-raspberry-pi

I like this early one below:

http://www.cowfishstudios.com/blog/obd-pitft-display-car-diagnostics-obd-ii-data-on-adafruits-pitft-touchscreen-display-for-raspberry-pi (Rasberry Pi B+ or Pi v2)

and also on this link http://www.instructables.com/id/OBD-Pi/

also some tutorial notes here http://www.cowfishstudios.com/blog/canned-pi-part1

Some newer versions of Pi software see this link http://tiqni.com/raspberry-pi/can-bus-support-in-raspberry-pi

I also found these useful links http://engineering-diy.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/raspberry-pi-2-carpc.html

Some links had taken media servers eg KODI then added GPS for tracking  and adapted it for OBDII (play music, added maps & nav and built in OBDII as well) most noteably with reference to this chap:

https://plus.google.com/+AndreiIstodorescu

code is downloadable here https://github.com/bboyandru/

(I would be happy to do a Cool Suzuki logo graphic if it helps others)

There are plenty of links here on what to do or buy one done for you .....

http://i-carus.com & http://i-carus.com/downloads/

or parts to build your own http://i-carus.com/shop/ I am sure that some parts can be sourced cheaply from other shops.

I hope that this is useful and it is shared in the interest of helping this forum and hopefully saving James time to develop a cool diagnostic tool for us to buy from him

regards

Julian

It is possible to run a Win32 executable like RhinoView on a RaPi using WINE but I don't know if anyone has tried this yet.

I recently started a project like this:
- SDL interface with bluetooth module as hardware tier
- Any Android device (smartphone or tablet) as presentation tier

Hope that in long winter evenings it will be developed :)

Has anyone gotten Rhinoview to run on a Raspberry Pi? My idea is to mount a Raspberry Pi under the dash, have it power up via the ignition and autorun the Rhinoview software with the video output to the in-car DVD player AUX input. Saves lugging a laptop about.
