I have put together a prototype but it is not ready to be sent out, I need to add some protection to the input. My test ECU is also not communicating so I need to resolve that to do a full test. I am out of the office next week testing a new OEM ECU so nothing will be ready until at least the week after next.

I don't need the ECU but I do need to know which pins are populated in the connector, ECUs that use pin 7 require different software to those that use pin 9.

Under the dash you should have a 16-pin J1962 connector. Do you have pin 9 or pin 16 populated?

My software doesn't work with the ELM tool. Did the ELM tool work on the Alto?

Sorry been offline for a while.

Does your software  work with ELM327 interfaces?

The ELM works fine on 08 Toyota Avensis and 2000 Vauxhall Frontera but yours is by far the best user interface I've seen.

Its usually located under the dashboard, below the steering wheel, it can be tricky to see sometimes. We are still trying to determine which protocols are used on these cars biut usually if pin 7 is populated then its OBD2 and if pin 7 is not populates and pin 9 is populated then its OBD1/SDL.

You need to locate the diagnostic connector and determine which pins are populated, from that you can determine if you have an OBD1 or OBD2 ECU. Do you have the 4-cylinder G10B engine? we had those in 2001 in our Maruti built Altos and those were OBD2.
